The only way is to change the resolution... 800x600?

the resolution does not resolve anything, the screen wont display everything btw is 800*600 meant to make the screen much smaller as it makes everything twice as big on mine

Reducing the screen resolution to 800x600 will make everything appear larger. Increasing the number of the resolution should reduce the size of icons, etc. Does the screen appear to move when you move the cursor off screen (as if it scrolls over a different part of the image?) If it does, you have overscan. Usually this can be solved by upgrading your graphics drivers.

Right. That's probably the problem then. Is it a standard definition TV? If it is, you'll have to live with the overscan, unless you can enable a resolution of 640x480, which is what the TV really runs at.

Did you reinstall your graphics drivers after reinstalling windows? On its own a PC probably can't interface with a TV properly, you need to configure that feature in your graphics control panel.

Go to the manufacturer of your laptop's website, and go to the drivers/downloads page - get the video driver from there.
