Those Maxell suck. Just use the Sony dvd-r ver.2.1 or any sony thats better. I never have a bad disc. I have some Final Fantasy backed up also and those can be some long games and I have played all the way till the end with out anything going wrong.

Sony's are good as well as Verbatim's
Maxell are sometimey...but I have had some games sent to me from a friend, those are the Maxell's made in Japan, and the media ID is different than the ones in the US. I bought lots of Maxell discs here, but they don't hold water to there japanese counterparts.
Stick with Sony.
The Sony discs I bought ID is Sony16D1...plus they go from 2x to 20x despite that they say only 16x. I burned at 20x by accident, but the burn was fine.
Maxells here are Ritek01, but the ones that my friend sent me had this ID MXLRG02.
good to go!!

do you have any way to play backups on the ps2; modchip or swapmagic?

Sony DVD+r's work, but here we have another case as I have tried other DVD+R's that didnt work.
SONY! SONY! SONY! I can even burn at higher speeds if I realy dont have patience. I know that is really not cause of the disc but I feel Sony with the Nero 8 just helps make the difference.

Lets get back to my topic :).
I just bought the Sony 100 dvd-r spindle pack made these are also made in Taiwan.
I can't check the media id because BestBuy doesn't refund opened dvds but their is a number on the back of plastic case that reads "100DMR47LS4" so im not6 sure if that could be a media id or not.
Should I keep the Maxell ones that I listed on my first sot in this thread or these Sony ones?

it's better to use the sony's. if you gotten verbatims, you wouldn't have to worry about anything.
if you have a fat ps2, ditch swapmagic and use a IDE hdd. 99% compatable with ps2 games, and doesn't use the laser. if your game doesn't work, then use the original/copy.

Dude do some search, there is allot going on right now about media and you will find that Sony is the way to go. Go out get a six pack of your favorite alcoholic beverage( I enjoy Amber bock ) and make some use of the maxels.
Ironically I have a bottle sitting on one right now.

The only reason I was worried about the Sony ones is because it said they were made in Taiwan. I guess I will return the Maxell ones and keep Sony. Thanks.

I haven't had excellent luck at all with Sony. It's been "OK" and most discs play pretty well. The best luck I've had is with Imation 16x DVD+R. This is actually a "value brand" in comparison to the others but it works flawlessly every time. I got the idea to use Imation discs from http://media.bitburners.com/en/mediabase/ (which tests media) and the review on these discs were more scientific. Their review said that Imation discs had little or no data loss in the burning process. Anyway that's my two cents.

I did those a few times. Heavy loading on the lens also. They suck as well in the end.
