hi ,

i have seen the printable inject dvd+ r made by maxell and iw as wondering how these work , do you just put them thru the printer and let the printer put what you want on them , it would look like the printer would scratch the disc , or how do you get the print on them . thanks

If your printer is equipped with a disk tray, the software program takes control. The disk is placed in the tray and the print head is run over the surface.

Many Canon printers have this feature (except those sold in the US?) and I think that Epson also has some printers that can perform this function.

I have printed disks with Canon IP3000 and IP5000;it works very well.

Yes the Canon printers don't have this functionality in the US but I think certain ones can be modified to do it.
If you're in the US dvdman101 look at the Epson R series - those have this printing to disc function.

I'm starting a new trend, Iron on DVD Labels. No more searching for Ty or Verbatim printable disks, any disk will do. Everyone has an iron, and Iron on transfer sheets are available everywhere. Think about it. I'm going to patent it.

The earlier Epson Stylus Photo R Series are the highly sought after printers. No longer made, but still can be found at sites like ebay. This includes the R-200/R-220/R-300/R-340. The newer models like R-360 and higher, has better resolution, but their Ink costs a lot more.

Most Brick and Mortar stores carried these printers, and may have some older models that are being cleared out. Check staples, bestbuy, officemax, office depot, etc if you get around to one.

The $ saved in ink is a major asset for the earlier epsons. Currently,my last purchase of generic G&G ink cost $10 when purchasing 8 sets at a time. 9 months ago, that price was under $6 per set of 6 ink carts. They are still very good photo printers.

BTW: On those maxell +R inkjet printable, get the spindles that say Made in Japan for the hitachi. The made in Taiwan will code as Cmags.

Watch out for the newer epson printers. I have a virtually new r265 sitting idle because the ink is just too damn expensive. It refuses to work with the compatibles (yeah.. I have tried all the software hacks as well)

The 220 series are about the best.. Get a used one off ebay is my suggestion.. made before April 2007. If you can find one with a "needs service" error really cheap I can tell you how to fix it.

My Epson R200 recently came down with the needs service message. Can you tell me how to remedy this? Any help greatly appreciated as this printer is not that old. I did wear my first one out though. Would like to keep using this instead of new R380 because I have about 7 fulls sets of ink left for the R200.

That is correct IP3000,IP4000,IP5000 and IP4300 are the ones i have did the fimware mods on.Any of the models that are offered with the cd print option disabled on the US version can be modified and the cd tray purchased off Ebay.
