hey, i found these two values when i went into msconfig:

"D" and "%systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k"

now i have no idea what the letter "D" all by itself means but i do know of a process called "%systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -u" but this one ends in a "k".

i can't find information on either, so anything you know will be appreciated. these two values just popped up today without me installing anything, which makes me think thats there is a root kit or torjan in my computer but avast, spyware doctor, adaware, hijackthis, trend micro and zone alarm are showing nothing.

there has also been a problem only recently when its now taking at least 3 more mins to load up and when i shut down in goes back to the user login pages, where i have to tell it to shut down again.
this is confusing, i have seen nothing like it before and nothing is coming through as an infection of any kind :|

Looks like a memory dump command. Should not be in startup. Would you like to remove it?

well, i found it not to be the cause of my problems
just had to stop some programs at the start up

i did also find a file called msconfig that wasnt in system 32 through hijacthis. i deleted it and msconfig still works.

anyway, iam just glad to know (thanks to you) that i can delete the memory dumps, especially since i havent seen the k version before.

have a good new year too!

This is one of the sources I use to decide which startups should remain running, which ones to stop, and which ones I can delete through RegEdit. http://www.windowsstartup.com/wso/search.php If this source comes up empty. I just Google it.

Configuring Startups, is not as much of a problem, since computers have got so powerful. I remember back in the day of Win95,98,& Me, were CPU power was really affected by startups.
About the only things I leave in startup, or in System Tray. Is my email program, sound adjustments, and real time AV/Anti-spyware protection. And of course the usual Windows required stuff.

Take care...
