Hi, I bought an HP dv9650us. It came preinstalled with windows Vista premium and an hd dvd rom. When I try to play movies they seem to be in frame by frame.....slow motion...like it gets caught on a frame for a few seconds then goes on. Please does anyone else have that problem and how to fix. Thanks, Cathy

The techs from hp told me that it would only play on hp quick play. I haven't tried them on anything else since I figured they knew what they were talking about. I am thinking that maybe I need some different hd dvd software.

I have same prob. Have HP dv9590ea with HD DVD drive. Was actually working fine when I first got it. Then tried playing a HD DVD the other day for first time in a few months and was really jerky / hanging. Tried loads of things (reinstal quickplay, instal updates, reinstal HD DVD drivers etc) to no avail.

Let me know if you find a solution as its doing my head in...

PS: also, if anyone can suggest an alternative free HD DVD playback software to try that would be cool too.

OK finally got quickplay working fine. I basically uninstalled QP. Then cleared registry, reinstalled HD DVD drivers and reinstalled QP. Then disconnected broadband connection, suspended virus protection software, thoroughly cleaned HD DVD disk (I think HD DVDs are more prone to jumping/crashing for the slightest smudge) and booted up in QP. Looked incredible on my HD TV via HDMI.

Hopefully this helps all those having a nightmare playing back HD DVD in Quickplay...
