I have windows vista ultimate 64 bit, Asus M2-Crosshair 590 Sli, 320GB Seagate SATA, and an old Maxtor 60GB IDE. The problem: I bought an IDE to SATA converter for the Maxtor HDD, but it doesn't work no matter what I do. I can detect it when I enter setup but when I load the windows disk to try to format it it doesn't show up. I currently have windows vista ultimate 64-bit istalled on my 320GB but I want to add the 60GB. I think it could be the drivers. Any idea?

Why dont you format it by using the windows installation CD as boot-up?

Or use Partition Magic to partition and format that old drive.
And, the thing may be dead. I've had several that showed in cmos, but not work. Have you tried it solo?
Does your motherboard recognize ide? Does it have an eide slot?
Not really practical to use old drive with sata.
Sata fast=ide slow.
