A friend of mine from work brought over his pc,he said it was on and being used when his daughter accidentally unplugged the pc ,then when they plugged it back in it would not power up at all, none of the fans on the powre supply will come on when I tried to turn it on,I tried taking the battery out of the pc and resetting the bios but that didn't work either,do you think that by having the power supply cord removed while the computer was on could have killed the power supply? or fried the motherboard?again no fan movement from the power supply and no lights from the pc come on,it seems totally dead, any help will be greatly appreciated.thanks

I have dealt with alot of fried power supplies, I have seen more of those than bad motherboards. What kind of computer is it? ATX or premanufactured? I just replaced a PS last weekend for a friend. It was a Dell, luckliy I had some spare dell parts and just swapped it out.

Also, check to make sure the voltage switch didn't accidentally get moved a little.

ok thanks guys,I checked the voltage switch in the back it's ok,also the computer is an hp,look kind ofold maybe 3 or 4 years old,I kind of was leaning towards the psu but wanted to check in with some of you to see if I was on the right track, and with it being a hp computer do you think it would be hard to find a psu for it,I'm in arizona and I go to fry's electronics and to the pc club but most psu units are pretty pricey these days,I replaced the one in my pc about a year ago nad paid $75 for it 550 watts.also do you think that either of these stores would have a psu that would fit a hp? thanks guys

Fry's should be able to help you. I had the same problem with an hp. Just tell them the model number or take in the old one to make sure it will fit.
