I just set up the box yesterday but I'm not getting all of my basic cable channels like tbs, mtv, cartoon network, etc. The only channels coming in are my local channels and premium channels. When I tunrn to one of the channel not coming in I just the "one moment please this channel will be available shortly" message. I have the box set up using the component cables and the tv I have is a 40" samsung LCD. On top of that the picture isnt all to clear. The tv is capable of displaying up to 1080p but when I press the the format button on the receiver it only switches the signal back and forth between 480i and 480p.

Call Comcast. There's really nothing you can do to get what you are paying for except have Comcast fix the problem.

Hey LilBrotha, your tv is capable of 1080p but your HD box only supports 1080i because stations aren't broadcasting in 1080p just yet, you probably already know that i'm sure.. Anyways, i have a Samsung 40" 1080p LCD model LN-S4095 and i have mine set to 1080i(1920x1080) to get the sharpest image possibe from my Dish DVR VIP622 which only supports 720p and 1080i. Depending on your viewing distance, most HD broadcast channels look grainy because the HD signal is compressed, for instance direct tv and dish take a 1920x1080 signal and compress it to 1024x1024 that's why you get a grainy picture unlike HD DVD and Blu-ray which your getting a true uncompressed 1080P signal so the picture will generally look much much sharper. To be honest with you, i'm no expert on this matter but pop in an HD-DVD or Blu-ray movie if you have one then stand close to your set and watch it for a while, it will look alot more sharper and less grainy from that distance then you HD receiver.

I forgot to mention, is there anyway to maually set the resolution on your box instead of letting the HD receiver format the resolution for you? The resolution shouldn't be 480i or 480p, it should be 720p or 1080i, sounds like your HD receiver is going to a non supported resolution then defaulting back to Standard definition..
