Made in Japan Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, or Sony render the best results.

Karnmar: I got a couple of Benq 1620's.They are very good burners.

Office Depot +16x works very well. They're on sale this week for $20 per 100 pk.

Verbatim +16x and +16x Sony also works very well.

Are those Office Depot a gamble all the time, or they always have the same media id ?

And what is the media id of those ?

Is there any Office Depot DVD-R too ? Ever bought those ?

Just curious, I live for Taiyo Yuden and Verbatims :)

As Rotary mentioned..

NEVER, EVER use Nero's InCD application.
It uninstalls your ASPI drivers for your optical drives and generally makes burning/reading/copying discs a nightmare, as it controls the drive permissions and replaces your ASPI drivers with some bs Nero ones.

It's a horrible app., don't use it.
And make sure to reinstall your ASPI drivers after uninstalling it as it doesn't replace them.

Also get some better media (blank discs) ASAP! Your using CMC-MAG, which is just about the worst of the worst. Let those three letters be a lesson to you (CMC). Try Verbatim.

cougar_ii:
Office Depots are pretty good quality 9 times out of 10 their made by Ritek or Ricoh, both excellent manufacturers, just check the dyes before using.

cougar: Those Office Depot discs are very good. Their 8x coded as Ritek. Their +16x are either Ricoh or Ritek. Lately, they've been Riteks. Even some +RW I picked up were Ritek. I believe their DL media is also ritek, and the dash format should also yield Ritek. The only dash I use is on the internet media like Taiyo Yuden Watershields or Shiny inkjet printables.

OFFICE DEPOT:

+8X MADE IN TAIWAN: RITEK-R03
+16X MADE IN TAIWAN: RITEK-P16
+16X MADE IN TAIWAN: RICOHJPN-R03
+4x RW,Made in Taiwan: Ritek-004

They currently have them on sale again this week,20 cents each. Black friday, they were 18 cents each, buy my stosh of 200 didn't 3 weeks. Sunday,I picked up their last 5 spindles of 100 pks of +16x. I just popped in the 1st one in my 1620 and she's burning right now. This spindle is the Ricohs, here it is:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD+R:RICOHJPN-R03-004]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disc & Book Type : [DVD+R] - [Not Available]
Manufacturer Name : [Ricoh Co. Ltd.]
Manufacturer ID : [RICOHJPN]
Media Type ID : [R03]
Product Revision : [004]
Blank Disc Capacity : [2,295,104 Sectors = 4.70 GB (4.38 GiB)]
Recording Speeds : [1x-2.4x , 4x , 6x-8x , 6x-16x]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[ DVD Identifier - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's the 1st OD ricoh's I've gotten in over a year, still very good media.Hard telling what the other 4 pks are.The other brick and mortar stores,I don't even bother because OD has some very good media and great prices when on sale.

BTW: Of the 5 different batches of +16x memorex in an assortment of quantity pack, All coded the same Ricohjpn-R03-004. I won't even bother with maxell anymore. Strickly Sony,OD,and Memorex +16x if I'm in a pinch.

You don't have to install Roxio anything to get cdralw2k.sys on your rig.

The drivers may be installed by Easy CD Creator or Windows Media Player or Real Jukebox.
