Quote: As quoted from their website, one of the features of the new PSP includes "Call friends, talk trash to fellow gamers or catch up with acquaintances via Skype for PSP system."
Awesome feature...but are we talking about a "new" feature for the PSP? Or a "new" feature of a "new" PSP?

A few months back (before the PSP 2000 came out) people had confirmed while browsing through an official PSP firmware that there where references in the coding pointing to Skype. So this would lead me to believe it should be available to any PSP model Phat or Slim, if it is so, that is exactly what I have been waiting for.

You think this will help them catch up with the ds? Not saying 'beat' them or take the lead in sales or anything but could this mean people will rush out to buy more? I dont think so. My neighboor has a psp and i've been trying to get the internet on it to work at my home because i got dsl but i cant seem to know how. Asking me too many things that only the tech savvy know. I dont think this feature will be a selling point, at least not for me and i've been dying to get one. Theres a few games on it i want to play.

He's talking about how he can't get net on his neighbor's PSP. He doesn't understand the setup for the wireless and because only 'tech savvy' people could understand it...

Not that big of news, considering Skype is available for many mobile phones already.
I would hope this news actually slaps Nintendo out of it's slumber and makes them get to work on voice chat for those DS games. It was supposed to have been in the works for awhile now, and anyone else ever notice that funky headset/mic connector on the DS?

Theres no reason it can't support the fat. I'm sure that the people at sony could either route the microphone signal through that little plug next to the headphone jack or that they could do it all through the USB connection. Either way Skype on the PSP would be one badass feature.

Well, first, nobody is thinking this will help the PSP to catch up with the DS sales. It might make more people buy the PSP, it might not. However, you look at it, it's another value added feature, useful or not, it's up to the individual. Secondly, it's not rocket scientist to setup the PSP to browse the internet. Turn on the WiFi button (orange light), let it auto detect the wireless network, choose the security setting and enter the code, you're done :) Obviously, this is all easier on the DS because Nintendo made it easy (you want a tougher security, you're out of luck on the DS).

Well, the psp isn't a mobile phone. Its essentially a PDA that can play games, on steroids. And now its a Blackberry that can play games, on steroids.
