Are Region Code important?

I know that DVDs come with region codes or REC embedded in them. Are these taken off when we back up the discs? I am currently using DVDFAB HD Decrypter --> Shrink --> IMGburn. I was wondering because my son watches a spanish show but the only ones that I find online to buy are from region 4. I can't play them on my DVD player. I understand there is a process to take of the region codes from the DVD players but I have not read much on it.

Looks like my player is on that list and with my luck it only has 1 hack.

So if I buy a region 4 DVD when I back it up I can't switch the region code or leave it blank?

Buy your region4 disc and back it up so it reads region 0, and the back up will play on all dvd players.
