I just put together a computer and when i turned it on the display would not load. All the hardware seems to be turned on when I power up the computer. This is my setup:
intel e6750
asus p5b-mx mobo rev. 2.04 g
2 x 1 gb corsair cm2x1024-6400c4
seagate 320 gb 7200.10 oem sata 3.0gig
450 watts psu
xfx 8600 gt xxx edition
samsung syncmaster 172b (vga)
do you hear beeps from your computer going through the POST process?
Make sure your vid card is properly seated, and make sure all your cables are connected! (also if you have a video card, AND onboard video, try to plug it into both one at a time...)
If above don't work, or you have no onboard video, try disconnecting everything but the power supply.Be sure to disconnect the power cord on each step following. Most newer boards have pwr on even when off.
Boot, and should get several beeps telling you there is no video card.
Turn off, disconnect the power and install the video card and connect to monitor. Plug in and boot.
Make sure that board and memory are compatible. Try one stick of memory, swap and try again.
There may be some jumpers on the board for memory speed settings, check the data cards that came with your board.. Or the manual.
From bare board up, it is a step by step process.
Funny to find this thread as I am having just about the same problem. Just built my GF a PC. MB is MSI k9nbpm2-fid, Amd 5200, 2gb ballistix memory and Nvidia 8800 GT. Anyways, the machine powers up and everything but no video at all. I have tried different monitors, used the onboard video only, with and without the new video card. I do not "hear" a POST per say tho. I'm not 100 percent if I have the power switch , hdd led, reset cables hooked up correctly. I am confused to what cable is positive and whats negative. The cables all have one white cable and one different colored cable. Is the white ground? Thats how its hooked up have tried both ways and things seem to be the same.
I have also rest the Cmos, tried 1 stick of memory, vs. 2, different dim slots, just about every combination of things I can think of. Maybe the boards bad? Who knows but if you all can help me figure this out, I'd appreciate it very much.
beanboy, white is negative/ground. for power & reset switches, wires can be reversed but still work okay.
disconnect all cables to drives. remove all cards & ram except for videocard & 1 stick of ram. make certain the square 4 pin connector from psu is plugged into motherboard besides having the regular rectangular psu connector plugged in.
