How do most of you store your large burnt ("backed up") DVD/CD collection? I have a large steel case that contains almost 650 movies that I store there. I find it quite annoying and want a more professional appeal to it.
So for those out there with a large library, how do you store your DVD's?

They work well for me. No problems yet.
I take it you don't alphabetically sort your DVDs/CDs?
Nope. You kinda remember and learn where everything is lol.

Or, you can create a spreadsheet so that you know where everything is--like I do.
I have never once considered putting it in alphabetical order (in my spreadsheet it is, obviously), but those that put it in order in the binder, what do you do when you get another entry for a specific letter? Do you take out every subsequent disc and put it one slot over? Fine, allow some space with the anticipation of buying more movies, but at some point, how much space do you allot?
Example: slots 1-50 are filled from letters A-J. What happens when you get a couple of more C titles? Do you move all the D, E, F, G, H, I, J titles back one? What if you space all the aforementioned letters with 3 spaces but you pick up 4 titles of the same letter?
The only way I would alphabetize the binder is if I knew I was never going to buy another movie again.

Funny you mention it becasue I'm actually planning to make a spreadsheet for my movies. Its just the daunting task of entering them all that is keeping me hesitant. I know I need to make one though becasue I've had a couple movies disappear on me lately and I'm not sure where they've gone. with the spreadsheet I can keep track of who borrows what a little better. Family and friends seem to think that I'm their own personal blockbuster lol.

I currently have a case. It is in alphabetical order and very easy to organize. It's sorted just like the library. When I have a new movie, I merely place the DVD sleeve in the spot it belongs depending on the name.

At some point when I have a larger place I'd like to set up book shelves and store my DVDs in slimline jewel cases. I have friend that does that and it works out very well for him.

Joshewah- yes you maximize your storage capacity that way it's true ! I've got some of my movies in Slim cases ,some in standard cases . My wife prefers the standard size cases because She finds reading the Spines on the Slim-cases more difficult !Additionally I think the standard size provide a little better better margin of protection IMHO ! . Given a Dvd case of Decent quality of course . Also Being a Dumpster Diver and Cheapskate in no particular order I can often get the heavy commercial grade/lockable cases for free from the local Blockbuster !!! . and to quote the Ever quotable JVC" Free is Free !!!" Though as I said above I agree the slim cases do maximize your shelf space ! So if you like the idea and Don't have Small Children = Yours , the families , Grandchildren around Frequently to damage the slim cases then I could see doing that !!! I'm not knocking children mind you ! Used to be one Me'self I just know that They can be a little hard on things sometimes even unintentionally !!!. God bless them anyways though - Have a Good one Joshewah& Cheers !!!!

Lol... no offense but those storage units are a bit overpriced and look a tad clumsy.
Ever hear of a drawer?
Just go out and buy yourself a small, 3-drawer cabinet for like $50, one of those ones you can assemble yourself and chuck all your DVD cases in there.
I fit about 800 standard 12cm DVD cases in mine and it's only 60cm high.

Amir89- There are as many storage options as there are people looking to use them ! Some good, some not so good ! your idea seems solid ! as any But again it all comes down to individual needs and taste ! some like the Furniture look & library type access of shelves or Racks ! . Some prefer the ease of access of Binders and their relative compactness ? . Depending on capacity of course ! Some prefer the Compact storage and Protection of The DJ. Type Hard Aluminum /Plastic Road cases .In the end as long as it keeps the dvd's/cd's ect... safe Clean and out of harms way It's a good Thing ! And that's what really matters ! Cheers !

A drawer requires far more space than media binders though. Plus, I have mobility with the binders. I'm in college so my DVDs travel quite a bit. XD
