Ok so I was looking to buy a new desktop since mine is really old and all I use now is my laptop. I have about 1900 dollars saved up and was thinking about getting this desktop/monitor and was wondering how well would they work together.

I want the computer to be really fast and let me run photoshop quickly and be able to run movies smoothly dont need great graphics I do console gaming not computer gaming..

I don't know about the monitor but that computer sucks ass for a grand. Hell you could build a GAMING PC(means you could have a great computer AND be able to spend money on a great graphics card) for less.
I don't know about the monitor, I'm still using a CRT lol.
If you're willing to build your own PC you can DO much better for that kind of money.

Newegg doesn't work for me for some reason. But I saw the parts you listed. Pretty good except I would go with the GA-P35-DS3R, an HD 3870, and maybe not the Antec 900? Also the 520HX is overpriced, only because it's modular. You can get a 550VX for about 75. As for the RAM go with some Crucial Ballistix PC-8500 RAM. VERY good for overclocking.
I'm sure it would still come in under a grand after rebates.

Well the only problem with this is the only thing I have ever done is replace ram or video cards before.. I don't know if I would have the knowhow to build the computer from scratch? Do you suggest I try it? How much work are we talking here? Whats the best pre-assembled thing you can find if I decide I cant do it myself?
Also I am wondering whats better buying a bigger hard drive for inside the computer or just getting like 250gb and buying a external harddrive later because I would like to have at least 500gb in total for storage..Would that make the computer slower?

External hard drives are slow. They won't slow the PC down generaly, but opening files or running programs off it will be slower than an internal drive. I'd recommend using TWO internal hard drives. keep one for the OS and critical applications (Office etc.) and the other for games, multimedia etc. That way, if you ever need to reinstall windows, you don't need to lose any data, even if you have to reformat.
I'd agree with Abuzar on the parts, use the list krj posted, but get an HD3870 instead, and maybe a slightly more interesting case.

Yes and install the drivers....
Its not hard,it probably wont boot the first time lol,but its well worth it....
Just make your schedule free for 3 or 4 hours :D

Just obviously be advised that as long as you buy proper stuff, you will get a far better quality PC if you build it yourself. Mainstream manufacturers like Gateway use cheap, low quality parts.

Ok so you pretty much convinced me I am going to build my own computer. I have been looking at cool cases and wonder how to pick the right one.. I mean I can choose which one that looks the best but what am I looking for like lots of room? Does it need certain things other than that?

The Armor case is a huge size, so obviously make sure you have room for it / want a PC that size. However, due to that fact it cools quite well, and isn't exceptionally noisy. Just bear in mind they're incredibly heavy compared to normal PC cases like this one

The Armor weighs around 3-4x as much as the Lexa Blackline. Of course, if you're not a LAN gamer, it probably doesn't matter how much the thing weighs, but I thought I'd point that out.

Heh, I see Viewsonic screens are slowly getting bigger. 22 used to be the biggest they made. Then 24, and now 28. They haven't quite reached the 30" holy grail yet though... :)
Bear in mind that although Viewsonic make good monitors, 28" is quite a large monitor for a resolution of 1920x1200. It's ppi is low so the style of the image will be more akin to an HDTV than a monitor - i.e. you'll have to sit a bit further back to get a crisp picture. Of course for a monitor of that size the only way to get a resolution higher than 1920x1200 is to get a 30", which will set you back well over 1000 dollars, so it's pick and choose really.

Thanks for the info! Ill check them out right now. My budget is 1900 bucks so far that is what I have saved. But I think I can get a couple extra hundred for OS and keyboard/mouse/speakers.
Another Question am I going to need a sound card?
Also, Whats OEM/Retail someone was saying that oem doesn't come with manual and I dont think I would be able to do without manual since its my first time building my own computer.

You're right.OEM means you don't get the snazzy packaging, manuals and extra bonus stuff. It's fine to go OEM for:
Hard disk drives
DVD drives
RAM
But for the rest (especially the motherboard and the CPU) go Retail.
As for the sound card, the audio onboard the P35C-DS3R is good. Not great for gaming, but for music/video it's fine. If you want decent quality audio in games though, I'd recommend something like this. It doesn't need to be expensive, but as long as it's a dedicated card made by a decent company, you're fine.

If you're going to do the job right (fast PC, big monitor) you may want to save up for some decent speakers, it makes a huge difference.

You realize you're paying 70 dollars more for the side fan that doesn't even help that much? Just get the normal Armor case without the sidefan for a hundred.
For everything else just go with what Sam said.
