Hi, Have Sony vgn-tz191n laptop and it's great. The only problem I have with it is the size of disk 32G flash drive. Was wondering if it's possible to replace or upgrade this with either a bigger flash drive or normal sata drive. The sony guide and faq state that this is not possible.

Thanks

Thanks for those words of wisdom GRAKEL2K8. Officially Sony say you cant upgrade or replace the HDD. This I imagine is because they want us to spend extra money going to one of their Sony service centre's. DPP the external HDD option is a good one but kind of goes against the whole point of buying a small laptop when you have to plug in a lot of extras. What I really want to do is replace the 32G solid state drive with a normal sata 250G drive and use the recovery disk to get it back to factory default. Wondering if anyone knew if this was possible.

what type of connector does the flash drive use? when i'm talking about external hd's for the laptop, i'm talking about using 2.5" laptop drives in a 2.5" usb or firewire external enclosure. can you remove the flash drive out of the laptop?

Hi ddp, thats exactly what I'm trying to find out. The downloaded manuals/userguides have very little info on the actual hardware. The only thing mentioned is a "ultra ata drive" and "solid state drive". I know that the 2.5" external drives are small but I would prefer to change the internal HD for a bigger one rather than having to connect peripherals.

Thanks.

Had a look at the bios settings and wasnt much help. Bios shows two drive bays with one in use, no other info. I had a online chat with Sony support guy and reading between the lines he hinted that replacing the HDD should be possible although it's unsupported. I think I'll just go ahead and take it apart and have a look. I'll post the results for anyone having the same idea with this model.
Thanks.

if take it apart then take flash drive with you to your local computer store to see if they have a drive that uses same connector & hopefully about same dimensions.
