usbhost isn't working

I have a psp slim, cfw 3.71 m33-2, and am using irshell (3.81) for the first time. I'm trying to use usbhost and have gone through a number of guides but still can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I set my psp to (umd required) and installed usbhostfs driver 1.7 and psphost on my pc.
I chose a directory in psp host and even made it a replica of the file system on my memory card. But when I enabled usbhost on my psp it still gives me an error that it can't connect (psp host has usb enabled and the psp gets detected on my pc.). Everything else like usb mass storage , iso , homebrews etc work perfectly. I'd appreciate it if anyone could tell me what I'm doing wrong. (You should probably know that I'm using usb 1 ).
