My recent attempts to back-up the DVD "The Green Chair" turned out to be impossible and no one here had a solution short of re-authoring the DVD. See here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/591508

It occurs to me that this one DVD can't be the only out there that is impossible to back up. Is there a master list here of DVDs that no one has been able to back-up?

I read the other threads....... and then I looked up your DVD that you said NO ONE CAN BACKUP! This movie is Korean and was made in 2003 and put on DVD in 2005! There should be no reason why you can't rip it and burn it! The programs that are available now will do ALL the released DVDs that are out now. I have thousands of burns and never came across any DVD that can't be burned! The only ones that I have trouble with are the scratched ones that my son constantly watched and had to buy the DVD again to rip and burn. There are no encryptions that will stop AnyDVD + CloneDVD from working! DVDFab HD Decrypter is a free program, constantly updated, that will rip all DVDs to the hard drive ready to use programs that will shrink and burn to a DVD5 or just use a DVD9 and ImGBurn (another free burning program). Now that this has been said...... what are your problems that you are having with this DVD that is stopping you from backing it up. All you say is that your programs are not working! Are you having problems ripping the movie to the hard drive? Are you having problems burning the movie to disk? What exactly are your problems with this disk? Can you give error messages or even a Nero Log to show what's doing?

ok....... just read your other thread again:
Quote:
The movie is on there in some form as the files will play on the computer using ALShow player, but the object here is to back-up the DVD with a DVD that will work in a DVD player.

if you ripped the DVD to the hard drive and it works...... then there is no more encryptions to hinder your backup! You said you used Nero Recode and it burned it to the disk fine. But you can't play it on your player ..... it works fine on the computer....... then you have a media problem!

there are plenty of reasons why certain dvds (burned) won't play in other players:

1. burning speeds: burn at 4x so there will be less writing errors (rule of thumb is to burn at half the rated speed of the disk--8X disk burn at 4x).
2. read manual for your stand alone player and use the disks that will play in your player. If your player is less than 2 yrs old then it should play the + or - R disks! I said SHOULD that's why you read the manual.
3. try booktyping your drive to DVd-ROM so it will make your +R disks more compatible to players. Read this:
http://k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php
4. make sure that there are no finger prints or scratches on your disk that make it hard for the player to read the disk!
5. use good quality media (rule of thumb....buy the ones that are Made in Japan.) Verbatim is a top notch disk and is the only exception to this rule....some Verbatims are made in Taiwan and they are top notch!
6. and don't burn too close to the outer edge of the disk ..... which will make the disk unreadable! but using good media you will be able to burn close to the edge better than lesser quality media. Just in case I only burn no closer than 4400MB, so if you can set your programs to that, all the better!

follow these little tips of the trade and you'll have better success! good luck.
