Are there Portable Audio Systems Recalled on eBay?

I was just wondering about this and wanted to get peoples' opinions because I bought two Hitachi CX83s sometime ago from eBay where they both had a failing period not knowing anything about this sort of thing I'm wondering if there're products out there that get recalled before going to sale subject to design flaws or whatnot? If that's true what can happen then I'm wondering if it's also true that once they've gone out and this is found to be the case they don't always go right through the process of being recalled properly whereby some if not all slip through the net? These products then go on to a different market but I don't know if the fault was specific to those two units or it could be to all of them? If the latter is the case then information could be found somewhere or it would be a bad advert?
