I took apart my keyboard to clean it recently, it's a standard HP "Media Center" keyboard, OEM model (wireless) that came with my computer.
Anyway I unscrewed it, took off the top cover and wiped off any dust or dirt inside. I was careful not to touch the membrane or the plastic button groove pad inside. Anyways I put it back together and it seemed to work fine apart from the fact that the alphabetical keys from Z to M on the lowest alphabetical row don't work anymore.
Neither does CapsLock, Ctrl, Alt, or Esc. I even tried taking off the cover and actually typing by pressing on the membrane itself underneath the plastic groove pad, and nothing. The keyboard absolutely doesn't recognize any of those keys anymore?
I reinstalled the device driver, did everything.. and still the keys don't work.
Can anyone help me out? As I'm stuck with this vintage 1995 IBM Aptiva keyboard for now lol...
Dry, anti-static cloth, moistened it a bit water.
I get the feeling I might have broken something when I took it apart as the top cover was extremely stiff and hard to pull off, so I had to kinda pry it open.
Still it's weird that only a few buttons would go out..
I didn't figure you were that stupid but one never knows. There isn't usually too much you can do if the keyboard stops working. Next time you clean it out you might be better off popping the buttons out one at a time and cleaning it that way. The buttons pop in and out fairly easily.
