Hey, could someone help me out with uTorrent problems.
I tried what cbrooks said here : http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/9/263334

~ok everything, put port # in ur client *
~ reboot
*What does this line mean? Where do I put the port number. Client?!?

Also, uTorrent shows upload speed as well. I am not uploading anything. Does uTorrent automatically upload from my machine whatever I download from the Internet via uTorrent? How could I stop the uploading? I think it is eating up my bandwidth. I have a 1Mbps connection and right now it is downloading @ 10.1kbps!!!! It's really annoying.

Also, if someone could tell me: What if I pause a download and then reboot my PC or shut it down. The next time I boot, will uTorrent let me resume from where I left it?

Your client is uTorrent and you input the port number at Options/Preferences/Connection.
You would want to choose a port in the 49152-65534 range. Port is Blacklisted.
Also you want to uncheck (disable) the Randomize port each time uTorrent starts feature on that screen.

If Windows XP is your software firewall, there is also an option on that screen to have uTorrent added to its exceptions.
However, if you want to use cbrooks method, then you should probably not use this.
I do not use the XP firewall, so I have not tried this.

There are also guides on the XP firewall at Portforward.com.

Yes it does automatically upload if there are peers that need the pieces that you have already received on the torrent.
That is how bittorrent works, individuals provide the files to other individuals.
That is how you got the file.
In bittorrent it is expected that a downloader will upload back an amount equal to what they downloaded.

Yes.

oh and yes... What is DHT and what does a Tracker do? I disabled the DHT just to see what happens. It didn't seem like it changed anything. Only the Tracker fields became blank.

What is DHT
DHT (Distributed Hash Table) is an addition to certain BitTorrent clients that allows them to work without a tracker.
What this means is that your client will be able to find peers even when the tracker is down, or doesn't even exist anymore.
It allows the swarm to continue as normal without a tracker.
You can also host torrents without a tracker.
See uTorrent FAQ: What is DHT.
In some situations (private trackers/ISP shaping) it is necessary to disable DHT.
However, for most people it is best to leave it on as it will help you reach more people for the torrent.

what does a Tracker do?
A tracker is a special server that contains the information needed for peers to connect to other peers.
Trackers coordinate the BitTorrent clients, and also keep track of statistics and verification information for each torrent.
The tracker is like a switchboard for telephones, except that the tracker can connect you to several individuals and vice versa.

I saw your speed test results in the other thread.
You have a large disparity in your results.
Based upon your average of 202kbs (25.25kBs), you could try the xx256k setting at Options/Speed Guide.
This will set you a little high on your upload, but given the large discrepancies in your speed tests, you should be OK.
You may want to check your speed again in a week or so to verify.
Make sure you stop all torrents and other internet activity before starting the tests.
