I've had the PC for about a year and a half. It's worked fine until I accidentally kneed the tower when I was about to get up from my chair, doh! The computer screen and music froze on the screen. I then restarted the PC and I get not a boot screen or anything just a black monitor.

DVD/CD Drives show power LEDs
Hear HDDs spin
7800GTX card spins its fan
Mobo has green LED lit on it

Everything appears normal except for the fact that I don't even get to the boot screen. I tried unplugging and replugging everything in the tower as well as starting it without the harddrives connected. Is my motherboard shot or what else could it be?

Okay, I seemed to have fixed it myself. I took out 2 of the 3 RAM sticks, my sound card, and my 2nd HDD and it booted.

I must say, that doesn't sound like a good solution to the problem. Try putting it all back in, and see if the same thing happens. If it does, you may have fried some components, your motherboard, or both.

Looks like one of the Ram sticks is faulty. Try putting in one stick at a time to make sure which one doesn't work. Then you can go replace that one.

All of my components work as normal. Although I didn't mention it but once it booted, I put everything back in.. RAM, HDDs, Sound Card, Video Card. Everything is back in the box now and working normally. I have no idea what was wrong but it's fine now.

Occasionally, connections with RAM slots can get a bit iffy. Sometimes pulling them out and then putting them back is all it takes.
