sounds like your downgrading a slim but are using and older version of MMS that doesn't support screen for slims.

Does the power light come on when you insert the battery. And does the MS light flicker like it trying to read it. If the PSP starts right away, try remaking the MMS with a cardreader. Info of what happens from start to finish would help us better to understand what it could be.

What originally caused the black screen. Were you running CFW to begin with. Can you get into recovery(Power on-hold r trigger) Did you brick it trying something.

i have a psp running offical 3.80 firmware.
i have my own battery and 1gig msd card.
it's works fine i just bought it off ebay because i wanted to downgrade to 1.50.
i have seen it on web site that it was the only way to downgrade from offical 3.80.

so bought off ebay and tryed everything but all i get is that black screen.

but i put my own battery ' game ' battery in and everything runs fine as nothing has happened.

i can view the software on msd card and play. but they all cut off after the psp intro screen and say game can not be played any ideas.

psp model psp-1003

thanks in advance

Try recreating the MMS with this

Sounds like files aren't in order on the ms.
