Alright everbody, I'm a newbie looking for advice, any would be greatly recieved.

I am trying to convert some .sub files to .srt. I am using ConvertXtoDVD for conversion and burn but it only supports .srt files... so with reference to ozmick, I know it's from a long time ago but...

When you fire up SubRip, up the top just below the menu bar are a couple of icons, a DVD icon and one that kind of looks like writing. Click the writing one, it should bring up a panel down the bottom where the subtitles can be read. Next, open up the subtitle file you want (File->Open in that same panel). Next, there is a little icon that looks like a puzzle piece in that same panel again. Click on that, and select the format you want them to be saved in. Click the button with the tick. Save as whatever you want, should be good to go after that.
* When I get to the file->Open part highlighted in bold above, SUBRIP says "Warning unrecognised file format"

I have checked through a few pages (and search also) of the subtitles forum and couldn't see any specific answers to this problem, so appologies in advance if I'm asking an old question!

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks...

You can try Subtitle Workshop to load the .sub file and see if it can save them as SubRip.srt

Where or what did you use to get the .sub file?

Ok, sorry 4 the delay. I got the sub file along with main title from 'a site' (I can't say where I got the sub file from can I?) and dl'ed torrent via utorrent.

Hope this helps.

ps. I've read the rules, but Bit unsure about rule 5, can I mention the actual title of dl's and am I aloud to even mention other sites?? I'm a bit paranoid about the specifics of what I can say, sorry 4 being a so dramatic, but I don't want to get banned...

Attar, cheers for that. Got my .srt now. Thanks a lot. ;-)

All I've gotta do now is find out how to get the subs to show only for the foreign speaking parts, looked on another site that claimed to have subs for the russian only parts but was the same file!!!

Anyway thanks again!
