Connect Advent Laptop to TV

I've connected an Advent 7105 laptop to a Philips 42PF7621 TV, using a VGA to RGB-VH cable, but my TV screen is blank. As far as I am aware I've followed the instructions in the TV manual. There are none in the laptop manual. Does anyone have any idea what I might be doing wrong?
