I own AnyDVD, but I tend to use the free DVDFab HD Decrypter more often.

LOCOENG is pretty much right. If you want freeware than DVDFab HD Decrypter is pretty much your best bet. That is if you want to back up recent movies. There are other software that works fine on older DVDs, sometimes even on new DVDs that are also free. DVDFab HD Decrypter is the only Freeware that is still being updated (at least that I know of). Once there is a new update the software will direct you to the website which you can purchase it. All you have to do it bookmark the original free download link and get the update from there.
