PC DVD WON'T PLAY ORIGINAL DVD DISC

I hope I am posting this question in the correct forum .. if not then please would admin move it to the correct one.

My problem is that my pc dvd won't read an original shop bought dvd which I am trying to make a back up of.
Even when I check in My Computer the D: drive is showing as empty, it reads all other discs ok ... but not this original dvd - what could the problem be ?

When I launch Clonedvd I get a message that the D: drive is empty of media !

Could it be a copyright issue ?

Any help much appreciated as I am starting to tear out my hair in big bunches !!!

The movie is Charles Dickens 'The Signalman'. It is a brand new original dvd bought from HMV.
