Has anyone used the Great Quality media from Frys electronics. I saw the ass today for 19.99 for 25 and was wondering what luck people have had. i primarily use verbatim DL for xbox360 backups and would use the GQ for movies. so if anyone knows who makes these or just your opinion on the media i would appreciate it. If not what do you all think of the ritek dl media....

Iknow,
Not knowing anything about this media, I recommend staying with Verbatim or Ritek as the better choices in DL media, but if you want to be brave, try a few and report back to us on what you find out about them.
But looking at the thread about DVD codes, GQ yields these manufacturing codes, some very suspect.
Quote: GQ (Great Quality) DVD+R 4x (AML-001-000)
GQ (Great Quality) DVD+R 4x (MEDIA ID001)
GQ (Great Quality) DVD+R 8x (OPTODISCOR8)
GQ (Great Quality) DVD+R 8x (PRODISCR03)
GQ (Great Quality) DVD+RW 2.4x (INFODISCA01)
GQ (Great Quality) DVD-R 4x (LEADDATA01..)
GQ (Great Quality) DVD-R 4x (PRINCO......)
GQ (Great Quality) DVD-R 8x (TYG02) ??FAKE??
It appears that with this label you have a definite crap shoot, you may get a good manufacturer on one batch, then someone totally sucky the next time.
Link Here
Not really confident in this label.

what are the opinions on using the ritek dl media for xbox360 backups burned at 1x. this is the speed i burn all my verbatim games on and not a single coaster or bad burn to date(MIT Media), staying away from the MII.

I've don't own an X-Box 360 so I can't speak about the quality of Ritek for that purpose, but I've never had an issue with Ritek DL for movies.

I bought 2 packages of 25 because the low price sucked me in. The disks have been nothing but trouble and I will not be buying anymore. Just looking @ the bottom of many of the disks you can see visible flaws, i.e. bubbles, streaks, etc. In simple terms they are garbage and very expensive when you factor in that 30-40 % of them end up in the trash because they are defective.
Cheers

Ritek should be fine now-a-days, heck, they are probably better than MII Verb DLs.
I wouldn't stray away from Ritek and Verb in DL market, Still a lot of low tech bad quality discs out there.

One thing is for certain: You can not go wrong with Verbatim Made in Singapore Dual Layer Media. DVD+R DL
If you have a 16x burner, you should be able to burn these @4x. I do all the time and get Perfect results.
Any other Dual Layer media is a roll of the dice. Expensive as Dual Layer is, I personally don't take chances. Get the best, forget the rest. Think about this: How much have you really saved if even 1/4 of them are coasters?
Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.

Office Depot has their +R DL on sale 8/31 - 9/6 for 14.99. With an empty ink cartridge, it is $11.99 which is pretty good. For movies? I don't know. For backing up Xbox360 games, excellent. So long as you backup and burn it properly, they work great. I've backed up all the $60 games I bought for my kids who have been playing off the backups for two years and none of the OD DL DVD's have failed yet even though there are scuff marks, finger prints and other signs of kid abuse on them. I figured that even if they last only a year, at least I won't have to rebuy a new original disc or pay $$$ for a replacement if the original gets destroyed. A $2 disc is a good insurance policy. A $0.50 disc is even better.

Just wanted to update this thread. The GQ disks I was able to burn are now failing. Out of curiosity I coded a few of them and believe it or not they code as Verbatim MKM-003-00 . In my opinion they are most likely Verbatim factory rejects. Many of the disk I purchased failed to burn, some even have visible flaws in them, and the disks I was able to back up movies to are now unreadable by my stand alone's and computer. Buyer Beware!

I've heard that many manufacturers of questionable reputation fake the MID code. Wouldn't surprise me to see such an occurrance here, especially with your mentioning of visible flaws.
