i have a dell desktop dimension 4400 that i'm wondering some things about, 1. anyone know the type of pc case it is? and 2. if i was to sell it, would i get more money selling it as a whole or part by part?

I have worked on these type of cases before. I do not know who mfg's them but they are heavy. The clam shell design can be handy though. As for making any cash off of it whole or parted you won't get too much. I would suggest whole to someone looking for a system as the parts by themselves are starting to show age with the new Intel C2D processors that are out. Unfortunate but computers are like cars expensive and hold absolutley no value a few years down the road.

thats good but you will need a new power as dell runs proprietary supplies for the most part. Also be sure to watch your air flow in those cases, some modding may be needed to ensure your new setup doesnt overheat.

so a new power supply? okay...i was going to ask how much power that dell has but if i have to get a new one then forget it. lol...know any inexpensive yet good brands?

inexpensive now a days is $120! im using a corsair psu. does the job though! do some shopping and reading you might find putting new together can be done cheaper. the case isnt going to save you too much on a new build

well to be completely honest, i don't have alot of money. and the reason for the parsts i choose, im going by a wish list put up to create a hackintosh. yea i know its illegal and all that but im going by that list and as far as mobo and video card i don't know what ones will work and what ones wont, and the wish list parts work..

A hackintosh? You'll have to advise me on what that is. If you don't have the money to fork out on an operating system, get a free distro of Linux like Ubuntu.

hackintosh = pc hardware that runs mac osx
why i need this? i love mac, i have a g3 but with this im unable to have both windows and mac. so i want to have a desktop that will run windows along with mac osx leopard.
i have all the OS's i need, just need pc parts

Yes it is an ATX power supply, but you will have a hard time connecting the front control panel for the case to a motherboard that is not from Dell. They use a proprietary connector to the motherboard. You may also have problems with the back plane where the I/O connectors come out of the computer.

Interesting way of doing it. Hadn't even considered that. I share pcdoc1's concern about the case though, you may very well have to replace it.

yeah im probably going to end up buying one...just in case.
how big of a power supply should i get? the wish list that i looked at, the case came with a 500w. its a nice case, its 120$ tho..bit outta my price range...but just in case anyone else is interested, heres the link to the site im getting ideas from......

OK I got a system for ya. BTW nice board thats what my system is running on. Lots of bells and whisltes!
MB- use the one you picked or this one. Nice mb pick sam!
CPU- bump up to this one if you choose other mb.
RAM- this or what you chose should work.
VIDEO- this for budget and sams is also very good choice.
PSU- agree with sam here psu
Case for giggles- here

Antec PSUs are ok, but Corsair ones are far better - the case and PSU certainly aren't relevant to being compatible with a Mac. Since you're using PC parts, it'll all fit.

For installing MAC those parts will work. Just search on the osx86 forums. Make sure you have a SATA hard drive and a SATA DVD drive otherwise forget about installing mac on there as it doesn't recognize other drives.
