I recently bought a fat PS2, SCPH-39001, which I've learned is a version 7. I'm hoping to get it chipped, and I would like to work with:

- Original and backup PS2 games
- Original and backup PS1 games
- Original and backup DVDs (which it already does)

I have no interest in an other fancy stuff, and I've found how to backup the games and should be able to do that no problem. Also I'm covered on the soldering, just need to have instructions/diagrams. I just need to know:

1. What chip to get.
2. Where to buy it.

Since I don't really need any of the fancy features, I'm hoping to keep it in the $30 and under range. I'm unsure which chip would be the best for me, and what sites are reputable.

*Update*
I ended up with a Duo 3 Ultra from foundmy.com (lots of good reviews, so I feel confident). I found a diagram for the v7 as well, so it's just a waiting game and then I'll try putting it in. Any info that I need to know would be appreciated. I'll report back when I get it. Thanks for the helpful forum guys. :)

duo3 is probably one of the best mods without all the extras, good choice.

Here's my update....
Bought the Duo 3 Ultra chip from foundmy.com on Jan 22, received on Feb 7. Took it to my dad for the soldering. He told me it ended up being a v5 or 6, so I guess I misunderstood the numbering or something. He said it took him almost all day to install. I got it back for Valentines Day.

The good news is it's working with all PS1, PS2, DVDs and backups of each that I have tried. I've made my backups using Nero v6 Copy DVD, so far 5 for 5 all working great. I'll revert to DVDDecrypter if I have any troubles. So glad I got the mod. Thanks again :)
