Hello all,

I've just installed a new ATi x1950xtx... along with that I installed a new power supply that is 650watts... my old I think was around 250-300.

Now I play rainbow six vegas for about 2minutes and the whole comp jus turns off... obviously an overheating problem.

So I can't figure out what it is... My card gets up to about 86-90 degrees on load before it goes off. It idles at 52 so my questions are...

Does x1950xtx have a shutdown temp??
Does the new power block somehow overheat the system with all that new power?

I have a 6.4 dual processor with heat sink and fan on it, i dont know if it would be that.

I had an nvidia 7200se on it before and had no probs... low temps of 46 in load and now this...

What do I do :(

all the help would be very appreciated.

Ps. I have 5 fans..
-One on the front
-One on the side
-Power supply fan situated of the underside of the supply... blowing -air into the machine
-The cpu fan
-The gpu fan

6.4 ghz dual processor? Don't think they make those.

The temps for your video card are fine but have you checked your CPU temps? Try coretemp for that.

Thanks for the reply

when I say 6.4 dual... i mean 2x 3.2processors, sorry :)

well I swapped the graphics card around to lower Nvidia 7200 and it didnt crash... not sure wht that means.

but I used ati tool tray and set fan to 50% manually which i heard increase the speed of the fan dramatically and so I checked gpu temp... it now idled at 38c... which is good...

except now it seems to crash in even less time on games... on the low-end graphics mmo flyff, it does it in about 2mins... I monitored temp of gpu and it sticks at 40c before crashing ?!?!

everest reports cpu idle temp is low as well... like 36c

I want to blame this new psu but im a noob so I dont have a clue, ill admit that :)

Any suggestions would be much appreciated
thanks

It might be the PSU not being able to handle the card. What brand PSU is it and what brand card?

Graphics is an ATI x1950xtx and has connect3d on the box

the PSU is a 650 watt, the brand is Kimpower, and type is ATX
... its pretty good quality, brand new.

This is a strange thing isnt it?

Thankyou for the reply

Kimpower? Never heard of them, hell newegg doesn't even sell that brand! Did you buy it for 30 bucks?

I think the PSU is at fault here. Probably a unit with a VERY low efficiency. Grab your self one of these and you should be good to go. A good PSU is essential to your PC.

I don't think that newegg site applies to me, im in england....

here is the exact PSU:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/XMAS-SPECIAL-OFFER...1QQcmdZViewItem

I even bought it from that page.
It seems to be a nice psu... looks well built, silent, good cable quality.

But then again, what else could it be right?
Does ATI have any specific specifications for the psu apart from needing 450+ watt?

Thanks for the reply

Yes well it look nice and that's about it. I am almost hundred percent sure it's the PSU. Here is the UK link.

It's a good thing you did. Hopefully I am right but cheap power supplies tend to go up in flames so it's a good investment no matter what.

Although don't worry I'm pretty sure of myself.

See? I knew I was right.

Wouldn't it have sucked if I was wrong though?
