Guys, can someone help me? I think I got the Vundo virus. I ran the HiJackThis program and this is what I got (log below). I sometimes get pop-ups of some nasty stuff. I already tried removing the Vundo viruses with VundoFix and am working on setting up a brick force defense for my PC (AV, Anti-Spyware, firewall, etc.). I appreciate your help guys. Thanks!!!

really? get all you want, load up on them, they wont help. Why:
your operating system is full of vulnerabilites. have you ever been to windows update?
------------------------
you have a vundo variation that can be a pain to remove.
i would download and do a complete scan with super antispyware, followed by a online scan

http://www.superantispyware.com/

online scan:
ESET online scanner:

http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/

uses Internet Explorer only
check "YES" to accept terms
click start button
allow the ActiveX component to install
click the start button. the Scanner will update.
check both "Remove found threats" and "Scan unwanted applications"
click scan
when done you can find the scan log at:C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt

please copy/paste that log in next reply and a new hjt log.

Tell me what you get from this, I'd appreciate it. Oh, and I also visited Windows Update and I've scanned my computer with Free online AV and AVG software as well as installed Anti-Spyware software, a registry cleaner, and a firewall. Thanks for everything!!

windows xp does not have a C:\WINNT dir.

Platform: Windows XP (no service pack) (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 (6.00.2600.0000)
Boot mode: Normal

Running processes:
C:\WINNT\System32\smss.exe

any explanation for that?

I think that's there because I upgraded from Windows 2000 to XP but I don't think I downloaded any service packs. Anyhow, do you think that would be the source of the problem???

i guess thats possible if you upgraded rather than doing a clean install.

start HJT, click the "Scan" button. check the items below, close any open windows, then click "Fixed checked"

F3 - REG:win.ini: load=C:\WINNT\System32\gebyx.exe

if you didnt add these 015's to IE trusted zone have hjt fix them

By the way, I'm trying to download Windows XP SP2 but I can't find it anywhere on Windows Update. Got any idea where I can find it? Thanks a lot for your help by the way.

you will only find it at windows update. i dont think you will see it listed as SP2, but rather as a collection of separate security patches/updates. just let the site 'scan' your computer, it will list all the patches you are missing. hope you have broadband, the download is massive. luckily you can get it on cd also, see link:
