Start by making (or buying but I highly do not recommend wasting money on) a Pandora's battery.

Pandora's battery is basically a home-made modchip, it can be created by opening up your battery and removing one of the pins (I only suggest this if you are good at soldering or have a spare battery) or Buy a spare battery and have a friend with a CFW Phat PSP make it for you via a psp app. I have also heard that these processes only work on Phat batteries. But I may be wrong.

A Pandora can be used to unbrick or downgrade any psp, with any firmware. After that CFWs are a simple step away, along with homebrew and non PS3-store PSX games.

There are plenty of detailed tutorials, but sadly I don't have links anymore.

(Not much help was I..? Well at least you should get the gist of what needs to be done..)
