FYI I use Generic GQ(Great Quality DVD +R)16x DVD's $20 for 100pk at Fry's electronics and never have data issues....I have used them for years with no problems so save your money from those name brand disks and give them a try. I burn max speed most of the time with no issues. Hope this helps someone. Good luck!

you do realize that you're putting more stress on the laser with those generic brands. verbatim, taiyo yuden, sony and the high quality discs use high quality dye that doesn't put stress on the laser.

also, max speed is bad because you have a higher rate of disc errors. with a game, you want very little to no errors; that's why it's recommended to burn at 8x or 4x.

you pay for the quality, not the quantity.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd

got a whole lot more to list . . .

You are probably correct but I have already got 3+ years of use using cheap media and as stated previously rarely have issues with burn speed. I guess I am willing to accept that if it comes down to it I will look for a replacement laser.
I have 2 gigs ram on an Athlon 3200+ which maybe prevents the buffer underrun.

I guess each individual can decide for themselves if its worth the risk.
