In a previous post I was working out of to flash my firmware. Being to much of a chicken I went out and bought another fat PSP with 3.52 M33-4 already loaded on it.

I have been pleased so far. I have gotten iso files to work and next I am going to start to work with some of EMUs.

I have a two part question. First. a video that I encoded with PSP Video 9 works fine in my OEM PSP but on the M33 firmware it shows up as corrupted data. Why is that? Is there a setting I need to look into? Second, what are the benefits of upgrading to the latest M33 firmware load? I am sure that there are many since the 3.52 M33 load but will it help with my quest of video files and playing emulators on my PSP?

Thanks.

1. Dont use PSP video 9. When it is install it ask what firmware are u using. Im guessing they put it a different format. (not sure if that is possible.) use 3gp and try it again . Here is a guide. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/588634

Thanks for the reply.

I was wondering if updating my CFW could turn my PSP into a brick. Now that I know it could than I will continue to avoid doing it. Don't really care about online radio. What about custom themes. Can I try some of them with my current firmware?

I'll give 3gp this weekend and see what the result is.

I am looking forward to jumping into working with a couple of emulators this weekend.

Thanks.

Themes can brick ur psp unless they are ptf. Ptf are only available for 3.71 M33

Interesting comment on themes. Prior to reading your last post I was doing some searching around the internet using my firmware version and theme in the search. It actually found some postings in other forums. Upon reading them and the responses they seem okay. I know, downloader beware.

I was still very nervous about putting them on my PSP and then I saw your post. Now I am glad I just didn't jump off in the deep end.

The post I am speaking of can be found here.

I am interested to hear your thoughts.

Thanks.

You can update using an Unbricker (Pandora Battery + Magic Memory Stick).

The Pandora Battery + Magic memory Stick's use is intended to unbrick a PSP. But you can also use it as an updater/downgrader.

So you are pretty much 100% safe if you update via Pandora Battery + Magic Memory Stick.

If you want to go to the latest custom firmware go HERE and follow the guide. You can update all the way up to 3.80 M33-4 with 1.50 ADD ON with this guide.

There is no need to worry going from 3.71 M33-2 up to 3.80 M33-4 using the linked guide because if you happen to brick the PSP during the update to 3.80 M33 you still have the unbricker to unbrick the PSP back to 3.71 M33-2.

Your really limiting yourself by staying with lower firmware due to being scared of updating. Using this method is an easy way for you to gain confidence and know how of how to update your PSP.

xXxBG I didn't buy a DATEL Tool Battery because at that time I was new to the PSP homebrew scene. Also, it always been my practice to not mess with my original unit. I always purchase a second for research. I had the means and so I took it.

That being said I am working as fast as possible to get up to speed on things. I am still working on the my video issue. Plus, I think after I return home from a trip I will be upgrading my homebrew PSP.

So, I am hoping to get the EMUs working this weekend so I can take it with me on my trip.
