Im trying to burn a 4.43 gb media file on to a dvd. when i go to do this it says im over by 8 mb. My question is it my burner or the dvd media thats limiting my capacity?

im using pretty cheap discs. would switching to say verbatim get me that 4.7gb.

In theory the disc is 4.7 Gb in capacity. But in the read of the size of the file, the space available is only 4.37 (when I use dvd shrink, I set output to 4480 Mb ). So the 4.7 Gb is like the perverbial 2x4 in the US, it is neither 2x4 but more like 1.75x3.5
As far as better discs go, I like Taiyo Yudens ( I get a better price than Verbs )

The translation of the byte causes a lot of confusion with blank dvd media. Look at your harddrive. If you suppose to have what I have- 200 gbs,then open up the drive to see how much used and empty disc space,it doesn't even come close to 200 gbs. More like 189 gbs.

You'll have to somehow trim it down,compress it,split it on 2 blank discs,or use blank Dual layer media.
