first of all, brilliant site more than helpful.

I need to know if there is software out there that can edit mpeg/avi files. i need to fade out the last 10secs of a mpeg/avi file.

Are you talking about fading out the sound?

You need to Demux the audio stream to a separate file. If it's mp3 you can use mp3directcut to apply a fade out without decoding/encoding (-> no quality loss), otherwise you need to decode to .wav, use a wave editor like audacity (free), Nero Wave Editor etc. and reencode.

I need to fade out the last 10/30 seconds of the sound and the video file. mpeg/avi

Well, then you posted this in the wrong forum. This is audio only. The audio part should work as I described anyway, about the video you post in the related forum

The audio part should work as I described anyway, about the video you might want to post in the related forum.
