look in add/remove programs panel and uninstall;

MywebSearch

looks like you also have two antivirus, norton and AVG. only need one AV, two isnt better in this case. i would remove one via the add/remove programs panel along with mywebsearch.

reboot once and post a new hjt log

get rid of the norton as that could be the cause of your slow bootup. norton is a memory hog. disable all of norton in msconfig\startup then reboot to see if any difference.

get more ram as 256megs & norton don't get along to well & if using onboard video then you lost at least 8megs of the 256meg to the video.

well i understand that my RAM is low, but if i am getting rid of norton will that help, cause i don't need or use it cause it is not free like the others recommended by AD.
i just want to get it working better until i can upgrade with a whole new PC and then i will make sure i have adequate RAM or whatever is needed
do you need another logfile? since i ran those scans?

get another stick of ddr not ddr2 ram as they are about $20-40Can for 256-512meg.

don't mean to sound dumb, but i am trying to make i sure i get the correct thing

when i purchase the ddr stick , do i need to get another 256MB to install along with the already 256mb that i currently have and
is this (512MB) the most memory that i can have on my model

Is this something that i can install myself without really screwing up my computer?
I have found ddr on ebay for reasonable prices, DELL is real expensive in comparison
can i safely get what i need on ebay?

you didn't read the link i posted on the specs of your computer. in the memory section it states a maximum of 1 gig of ram so each slot maxes out at 512meg. it might be possible to go higher but not certain on that with your board. don't buy from dell as they don't make ram, buy from your local computer store or online but not ebay. what country are you in?

you haven't used up too much time as i don't get paid to do this job. keep the 256meg if 1 stick & get the 512meg or get 2 512meg sticks to give you 1 gig total ram. just depends on depth of wallet.
