DVD/CD driver doesnt recognize my discs

on my comp is dell xp and the dvd drivers were working a week ago and in the device manager their is an "!" on my DVD/CD ROM drives! i cant update these drivers any help on what i should do?

Use 'Device Manager', go to the IDE controller where the drives are installed (usually the secondary) and uninstall the controller, then reboot.

did you add or remove anything hardware wise.

Are you using a Virtual Drive As these can cause confliks.

Other dvd software in conjunction with one another also can cause conflicks heres some i have run across.

Dvd Decrypter
Dvd Shrink

Some Nero Suits 7.1 and higher
Alcohol 120%

my drives keep saying error code 39 i have uninstalled and reinstalled and nothing. any help would please.

The cure is uninstalling all software that can burn a disk (Nero, IMGBurn, AnyDVD etc), cleaning the registry, then re-installing the burning programs.
