What do you guys think of Verbatim vs TY media in the DVD+R flavor. I have always used TY but OfficeMax has the verbatim on sale this week. I really like the great quality of the Ty just wanted some input...

They both feature Advanced Metal AZO dye.

For Plus format,The tys are harder to find locally-older sony and fuji in the Made in Japan spindles.

Verbatim are easy to locate locally and usually on sale for less than 25 cents each. Verbatim are now made by cmagnetics and prodisc, using verbatim strict quality standards and AZ0 dye. Some say stay away from the prodisc verbs and get the cmag verbs.

The MCC-004 +16x verbs are very good, and don't burn them too slow. 8x and 12x speed is what gives me the best scans.

with the newer 20x burners and 16x media slower isn't necessarily better 4x is as slow as you want to burn and 12x should be the max . most burn at 8x max in here

Verbatim is mostly all I use and don't burn any slower than half the rated speed. Burning too slow can actually be worst than too fast.

I burn 16x media (either Verbs or TY) a8 8x in my PC but what about burning 16x media in a standalone DVD recorder thats hooked up to a cable TV DVR? Don't they burn at 1x? The discs I've burned on it play fine on both the DVD recorder & my PC however I haven't done a scan of any 1x burned discs yet.....

I only use 4x -RW media in my standalone recorder, no point using write-once media as there's always adverts etc from start and end of programs to remove on a PC with DVD Shrink before writing to a write-once on the PC

Yes I have to rip my discs with DVD Decryptor, edit with VideoRedo then burn the result to a new disc using Convertx2dvd. Doesn't bother me to use write once media in the DVD recorder however the TV show discs are tossed after they are ripped once I've burned a disc without the ads in it.The movie discs recorded from the Cable DVR are kept as is since they don't have commercials in them.

Oh & did some scans of 16x media recorded at 1x in my DVD recorder. while they play back fine the scan results are much worse than the same disc would have been had it been burned at 8x. I was surprised after I scanned some discs.....
