My LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW 1693S will play/burn DVDR/RW but recently stop playing/burning CD/CD-R/CD-RW?
Can someone help me or did my burner just a lemon or is ith worth trying to figure out and fix/repair?

Have you tried cleaning the lens? They use a separate laser for CD & DVD.

I'm having the exact same problem except my Liteon model is LITE-ON DVDRW DH-20A3H. In the My Computer it now displays DVD-RAM Drive instead of DVD/CD it used to display before. I already upgraded firmware to YP5Y. I need some advise. Thanks

I have 3 primary and secondary IDE controllers and non of then showed PIO. Do i still need to uninstall them?

I also uninstalled the driver for the device and let it install again in restrat and did not work.

I also did remove it and connected it to another computer with a working DVD/CD-RW drive and it didnt read CD's either but just this day I still manage to burn 2 DVDs.

Yes i would uninstall all three of them, actually i would uninstall everything all three drives and the IDE controllers reboot and let windows reinstall them.

did you try a firmware update? check here

if all this ^^^^ doesn't work and since you tryed the drive in another PC with the same results my guess is the drive may be bad

I just did the IDE controllers uninstall and firmware update again. Did not work so i guess is a drive problem. Any other way i can make the it work? Its fairly new just 2 months old and i dont want to return it because when i tried to return a speaker once to the retailer they said it will take a month to get it back coz they said they will give back to the manufacturer.
