Having trouble with audio book?

I have a audio book file in mp3 format but every time I burn it to a data cd and place it in my dvd player and it will not work it keeps saying data error. Is there any way to burn it to a data cd and make it work in my cd player? I am using roxio burning software I also tried nero but it will not even take the files.
