Does anyone in here use ImgBurn to backup their double layer DVDs? I have never done this before and was wondering if there are any tricks or hints i should be aware of. Thanks for your help guys!
The easiest way to backup a DL disc is to use DVD shrink. Make sure the settings are for DVD9 instead of DVD5. This will create an ISO of the full DVD. Then just burn it regularly using imgburn.
LIGHTNING UK put a lot of hard work into making ImgBurn. Nothing else comes close. No other program can do a better. This is not just my opinion. It's a fact. And with the new version coming out very soon, you'll be able to do a lot more.

It's also great for those lower budget dvd-5 originals.
No question that it is the best free DL backup program. And it's also a very aggressive ripper in case someone has some damaged discs that give them crc errors.
It's also very easy on the resources,in case you have an older/slower pc. In fact,my older 598MZ P-3 machine has a faster process time than my main pc. Just make sure you have plenty of free harddrive space.
Also stick with Verbatim for your blanks.
1 drawback,this is a totally different format,so there's is a small chance that your stand alone player may not play it. Best to use the +R DL and booktype them to dvd-rom for higher stand alone player compatability.
kramers4: What's the brand name,model#,and current firmware version of your dvd-rw drive?
I will give that a try on my next CRC error. Most of the time, trying to get past CRC errors on a scratched disc is a waste of time. I have yet to get dvd decrypter to successfully rip a damaged disc. Anydvd ripper doesnt do any better, even though it says it will repair a damaged disc on the fly. If cleaning the disc, and ripping thru a couple different rippers doesnt work, i go get an undamaged disc. For ones that cant be replaced, oh well, too bad...
I once let Dvd Decrypter try to rip a damaged disc for 10 hours. Its a good way to wear out your burner. CRC read error... retrying... CRC read error.. retrying... If it didnt read it the first 20 times, it probably wont get it on try 21.
