I have a dell dimension 4600 The motherboard can handle up to 4 gigs of ram... This came with 512DDR.. 2 X 128 sticks..
I purchased 2 X 1 gb 400 Pc3200 sticks.. I installed them and all the pc does is give me numerouse beeps at startup.. monitor doesnt come on or anything.... Ive tried all the slots.. ive even tried installing the new ram with the old.. just to see.. but always just beeps at me.. I kow the motherboard is compatible since i did a scan through crucial scan...says the ram is compatible...

There is a small chance the ram is Dead on arival (DOA) it happens send it back using neweggs Return policy found here.

ahh i figured it out.. my pc only supports 333 not 400....

also dell dont like 3rd party hardware.. i also tried to install a new 3rd party higher watt power supply.. pc wouldnt even turn on... so im going to be tossing this out in the trash.. and building a new one...

No more dell for me :D

Thats the first time i heard about that. DDR is dyanamic Meaning if your motherboard supports 333. the memory Will downclock itself to Match That Of the MotherBoard. Intresting.

Dell is the worst Company to monoplies Parts by making there wierd form factor.

yep thats very weird... this ram is not ecc neither ... I Tested this ram in another pc.. works like a charm...

and yes it should downclock.. but guess not...

I dont think theres anything that needs to be done in the bios...

But i did check the logs in the bios after i was changing the ram in and out and the error it gave was "different size" that was when i ONLY Placed the 1 gig stix in....

weird...

You could also check to see if Dell offers an updated BIOS. A lot of times a new BIOS will help with memory issues.
