Here's my problem: Due to a virus/trojan I recently had to reformat and re-install my OS. All was well, until now. When I open "My Computer" all icons are present and accounted for except theLocal Diskicon. Instead I get the so-called "default" icon, and I am at a loss as to going about restoring my hd's icon.
Can anyone help with this particular problem? Thanks in advance.

After extensive searching, I have found one solution that has allowed me to at least have an hard drive icon again by using a VBScript Script File. If interested, or if you need this as well, go here and look for number 237 "Change Hard Drive Icon in Explorer."
