I recently started recording my tv shows on to dvd+rw's. i bought some verbs 4x code out as mkm a02 i think. I get really crappy scans like 49 and 50 qualioty ratings, burned at 2x and 4x.. i was wondering if anybody else had any good luck w/ benq 1640 and +rw's. They seem to play fine thou. I had some fuji -rw's that scan fine. but iwould prefer to booktype to dvd-rom. Thanks.
Personally I'd stay away from RW media. Just get -R or +R. I would recommend getting +R since your BenQ drive can booktype to DVD-ROM. Thats a legendary burner you've got there so feed it good media. Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim DVDs would be your best bet. I have a BenQ 1655 which is damn near the same and I get solid burns with TY and Verbs.
I have no problems with the Office Depot +4x RW in my Benq 1650 or Plextor px-716a. I haven't tried my Benq 1640,but should handle them very easily. I'm not sure how they scan, but perfect playback.
They are currently on sale right now for $9.99 a 25 pk spindle. That's what I gave for them last last month, very good RW media, just like their regular R media. All made by Ricoh or Ritek..

Aha,mine's not booktyped. I'll have to take care of that slight issue. It probably came off my plexy? I'll also scan it later and let you know how my 1650 scores it.
thanks for the input. The reason behind using the rw's is like to author them watch them and then erase and do new episodes. It seemed more logical since i'm not watching them more than once. in the past i was using write once media and throwing them out when i was done. I figure its easier on the landfills too! thanks again. next time i'm in newark oh i'll check office depot.

Ahh ok, then RWs would be best for you. The few times that I've used RWs I got terrible results so I'm not much of an authority when it comes to burning them. I'd listen to Saugmon.
My scans varried on several of the Office Depot +RW. The very beginning is where the major spiking was-which one of my plextor backups scored 36, 10 seconds into the scan. Ok after that. Another one from my Benq 1650 scored 94 after 10 seconds.Lack of time limited me from completing both those scans, but I have time this weekend.
But,as long as they are re-rippable for copies on +R's, I wouldn't worry too much about. Major issues, and you'll get a crc error during the ripping onto the pc.
On those scans, when it comes to reading, Benq drives are not 100% when you see those scores. You can use them as a general guideline.
If you're wanting high nero scores, you may not want these.Majority of the PIE/PIF errors are at the beginning and ending. I don't see a lot of RW scans posted.
I will try to re-rip that backup onto my harddrive. That's an easy way to test your backups. If you have a bad copy, then usually you'll get crc errors during the ripping phase.
