Hi there,

Ok. I have a PAL format wii with a D2B chipset (no legs cut).

I updated to the latest version (3.???) via the internet.

I then decided to buy a wiikey. (probably a clone as I paid very little for it. Thought I was getting a bargain at the time...)

First attempt at install went badly... lifted 2 solder pads & traces as I used wire that was way too thick. Anyway I ended up soldering to the legs of the chip... I am now 99% sure the install is good (although a little messy) as I have gone over all the connections with a multi meter. All seems fine.

The wii acts as though there isnt a chip there at all.

Plays originals fine.
Doesn't play any set up discs. (1.2 or 1.3)
Doesn't play any copies.
Doesn't register GCOS discs as gamecube at all.
Doesn't play the hex edited version of 1.2 setup.
Doesn't recognize 1.9b update or recovery.

I have been using a pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K17RS to burn the ISOs onto Verbatim DVD-R 4.7GB 16x Media at 2x.

Here are the possibilities of what is wrong:

1. My install sucks (possible but I am 99% confident it is good.)

2. My DVD writer is not compatible for burning wii software.

3. My DVD media is not compatible.

4. My wiikey is defective.

5. I am being thick and completely missing something.

Please can you give me your opinions on what you think is the problem and please feel free to add to the list of probable causes.

Cheers,

The most likely reason is your Wiikey.

Either the clone they sent you was defective in the first place (meaning you should contact the suppliers/Wiikey and tell them) or it somehow got burnt during the installation.

Have you checked all the contacts to make sure they work?

As a last resort I guess you could switch to imgburn and try, as that seems to be the program the majority of people use for burning.

If you do decide to go ahead and have another go, I would recommend getting it professionally installed. They will be able to make sure all the contacts are fully functional and any damage from the previous attempt can probably be rectified.
