quick question.

I've been buring dvd for a while now and all has been good. Today I was watch a buisness show on tv and the guy on there was talking about deleting files. He said that when you delete a file it is not really deleted and can still be found. That sounds bizzar to me. So does that mean when a rip a dvd to my hard drive and then delete it it will always be there? So like eventually my hard drive will fill up with deleted files? Or what did he mean when he said that?

I know this sounds dumb but thanks

Don't know if I can explain this well but when you delete a file it is gone from your HDD, but not really gone. It can be retrieved used the right sw, eventually though as you put more on your HDD it will be overwritten, the amount of time this takes is dependent upon the size of your HDD. Example an 80g HDD will overwrite data faster than a 300g HDD. Make sure you do a defrag every so often this will help. I suppose if you really want to try and bury something you can go for one of those military overwrite programs, lol.

the only way to really completely remove it is to use programs like Evidence Eliminator or by reformatting your HDD several times

Probably the easiest way to explain that is when you delete something the space that file took up is now allocated as free space. Like arniebear said, it will eventually get overwritten. Or you can use any of the applications available that destroy data, therefore permanently making it unretrievable.
