I have a Lite-On LH-20A1H and my question is:
What is the Difference between DVDs of the same Manufactures? (Besides the price and speed)
I've was looking @ getting some Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim is there much of a difference in quality?
I know that some you can print on the top or have a silver non branded top.
I use Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden almost exclusively. You won't see a big difference in quality between the two brands, whether using the printables or non-printables. The biggest difference between these two and the rest of the DVD manufacturers will be consitency and compatability....others fall short in this area.
ok, but how bout the different types of DVDs by the same Manufactor like Taiyo Yuden? What is the difference there besides the write speed and the front side??
Well I would assume that in Given brand ( Taiyo yuden ,Verbatim, Ritek ect... That Dvd media intended for different Speed ranges would use different Dyes or perhaps variations of the same type of dye to optimize them for their intended speed range and use ! otherwise we would only have 1 speed available and one type of dye ! It's all good to know but personally I think all else being even that Consistency is the most important Virtue of DVD media and to quote LOCOENG " that's what seperates taiyo yuden & verbatim from the rest " It's not that other brands are'nt consistent too but many times they are consistently bad ! Myself I've had good luck with Sony's ( Mij & MIT ) Taiyo Yudens , Verbatims , Riteks = Maxell's & officedepot's , & RicohJpn- Officedepot's & Tdk 4x DVD+R ... I've used other media Like Fuji Mij which is basically Taiyo yuden again !But most of my media horde is Verbatims, Taiyo yuden = Various -Fuji -Sony -taiyo's and The Officedepot/maxell =Riteks & Officedepot Ricohjpns ! I realize that everyone has different burners with different vintages of Firmware so what works for me may not for someone else ? and vice versa ! just go with the best media that works for you and you should be fine Ciao!
