Daxon, the company that makes Sony's non-MIJ media, has a plant in Malaysia. They moved the production of at least half of the -R media there about 6 months to 1 year ago.

I had some old Sony -4x that were made in Austria. Same Sony 04D1 MID code that was on their taiwanese spindles. Horrible stuff, and I've never seen any other Made in Austria media ever since.
Sony does love to use the same MID code for whatever country that supplies them.

Yes, that's because the material used is the same, which is what MID codes are about. MID codes have nothing to do with the country of origin, nor do they have anything to do with the manufacturer. MID codes tell you about the materials and manufacturing process of a disk. Sony supplies all the materials and manufacturing specs, so the MID codes don't change no matter the country. This applies to all DVDs, not just Sony's. That doesn't mean that the quality of media produced is always as good, but the basic components don't change.

Comment & Question :
I am a member of a online community that follows DVD and Consumer electronics & Computer Technology Several members have run across Sony DVD media with Made in Malaysia printed on the packaging . They are Curious To know If Sony Does Indeed have a DVD recordable media plant in Malaysia or do they just Outsource them from another Manufacturer in Malaysia ? and if this is so then Who makes the disc from Mlaysia for them ( Sony) thank you!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think that's entirely correct...Maybe Sony supplies specs/quality standards, but the disc will have the MID of the dye used. If made in different plants, they will have same MID if same dye was supplied and used.
There is a difference between discs made by different plants, in different countries, using the same dye, VS. discs made in different countries using different dye.
The way I read your post, the DVD+R media made in Japan by Taiyo Yuden, for Sony, should have a Sony MID. Not true, the DVD+R 8X has the MID YUDEN000-T02-00, since Sony did not supply the materials and the Taiyo Yuden dye was used.
Piss me off, and I Will ignore You!

No, that's a misinterpretation of my post. The message I was replying to was talking about Sony-made disks from different countries, not Sony disks that are made for them by TY. I was clear about what I was responding to. When talking about Sony TY disks, we would reference them specifically. They are two separate categories.
The point is that TYs are made from TY materials/dyes. The fact that TY also manufactures them is completely incidental.
Sony-brand disks that are made with Sony materials have Sony MIDs. Sony-brand disks that are made with TY materials have TY MIDs. It's really quite simple.
CMC, Prodisc, and Moser Baer manufacture Verbatim DVDs, but the materials/dyes are supplied by Mitsubishi Chemicals, so the MID codes are always MCC.
