Panasonic DMR E80H DVD drive dead

The unit is several years old, and has recorded many DVDs. Lately it started to not recognize some blank disks -R and RAM. Then it would seem to record, but the disk were unreadable. Finally it crapped out on Super Bowl Sunday. The drawer never opens on the first try, and it won't recognize any disks (blank or pre-recorded. I wasn't able to get everything off the hard drive before the DVD died. Is there a fix for the DVD? Thanks.
